Spyware -Paypopup, Searc-h, deal-nation etc.
« on: November 19, 2005, 07:11:57 AM »
Hi,

I have spyware I can't get rid of! It includes paypopup.com, searc-h.com and several deal-**** things. I've scanned with AdAware, Spybot and ewido to no avail, as well as trying several online ones. Can someone guide me please? I post a HijackThis! log and an Ewido Process report.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Download L2mfix from here, Save the file to your desktop
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
We'll need it in a bit

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from HERE
Click on the Free trial link

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Please print the rest of these instructions or copy and paste them too notepad for reference

Make sure you are disconnected from the internet.

We need to make sure that Ewido's Guard and Microsoft AntiSpyware don't interfere with any fixes we try
By the way, you didn't supply a log from Ewido's, you supplied a process list
That's OK for now
Open Ewido>>Under the Main page(Status)
Under Additional
Select Uninstall Guard>>OK this

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Options>>Settings
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Access your Add/Remove programs and remove if found
Daily Weather Forecast

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
In SpySweeper
Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives.
Ensure Local Disk C: is checked
Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

When prompted, allow Spy Sweeper to restart your computer

Back in Windows
Stay disconnected from the Net

Close any open programs running in the background, this step requires another reboot
Double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop
From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log
Post the contents of this log back here

If the L2MFix doesn't run after the restart, then go into the L2M fix folder and double click on second.bat to run it.

Additionally,
Copy and paste the SpySweeper log together with a fresh hijackthis log into this thread.

So here's all the logs I want to see
1. The log from L2Mfix
2. The Spysweeper log
3. A fresh Hijackthis log

Your welcome, glad to help

I'll lock this topic as your problems appear resolved
For a final cleanup step you may want to
Disable system restore>>Reboot your computer>>and then reenable it
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature
