Ok, I read the post/ article on W2k.....and how to do it.
Problem is Cdrwin doesn\'t recognize my cd burner. I have the latest Cdrwin....and I checked the list of supported devices on their website. Mine is not in the list. SO......as someone else suggested, I can use CDrwin to make the ISO file, and also \"embed\" the Boot.ini file in there at the same time. THat part I think I understand. Then use another program to burn the final product onto a cd. That part I think I understand.
Problem is, I tried that last night, and it didn\'t work. I think I am about 99% there..........I just need a few more pointers.
Ok, first of all, I downloaded the original ISO file from the web....and I didn\'t even know what an ISO file was. So I searched and realized it was more or less a zip file. So I got UNDISKER to extract the contents of the ISO file. It works. I am typing from XP right now, that I installed from that file. So the file is not corrupt. XP is in there. I just have to figure out how to get it to a bootable cd.........so that I can format my HD\'s and install a fresh copy from a CD.
So.....I am going to describe what I did, and you guys can tell me what I am doing wrong.
First of all, once the original folder was extracted, I believe I re-named it. (is this a problem.....after reading several posts, I believe this was a no-no) But I have the original ISO file, so I can extract a fresh copy all over again to my HD....no worries.
So, I extract the original ISO file, to my HD........leaving all folders names the same. (changing nothing)
Then, I download the Boot.ini floating around here for W2k.
Save it to a temp directory.
Then I fire up CDrwin.......and tell it to \"build\" an ISO file..... I then point it to the directory where the original ISO file was extracted.
Then, I make sure all the check marks on the program are identical to the picture on the webpage. Last, I type in the volume name and go to the boot tab and enter all the info there correctly........and hit ok. (making sure to change the sector from 1 to 4) (and pointing the program to where I have the BOOT.INI file stored)
Then, I am back at the original screen....... I hit \"START\".....and it begins making my ISO file.
Now from my thinking.....the FINISHED ISO file should be bootable. So all I should have to do is burn the ISO file onto a cd, and it should work. Right? If yes, then I don\'t understand what I am doing wrong.
Any pointers?
PS (moderators, feel free to delete my other post sorry for starting a new thread, but This one is more informative IMHO)
