XP reboots with Tbird 1.4, need good intel board?
« on: April 11, 2002, 08:59:36 PM »
i have
Athlone Tbird 1.4
K7S5A has the SIS735 from ECS manuf.
512 DDR ram
Geforce3 3DPower
Audigy gamer-x
350 watt

WINDOWS XP HOME

and that is my problem.
my system is so unstable i\'m running it at 1 Ghz.
never the less, it reboots unpredictably at any load or time.
it does it on ave like 2 times a day!

i heard many ppl havin the same problem
i kindda believe it\'s a hardware problem conflictin with new XP.
therefore, i\'m buying an intel cpu and board combo;

which intel board out there seems to be stable with XP?
i\'m aimin at 1.8 Ghz cpu
also i\'m thinkin about the ECS L4S5MG with;

SiS650 & SiS961 Chipset
Socket 478 for Pentium 4
Two 184-pin DDR DIMMs Support
DDR200, DDR266
Support UltraDMA 66/100
AC97 Audio Codec on board
LAN: RealTek 8100b Onboard
3 PCI slots, 1 4X AGP slot,1 CNR slot
microATX Size (244 mm x 220 mm)

it\'s kinda new and has the fast SIS650, but i had a bad experience with the athlone sis735 so i\'m still worried, plz advise and share ur experience about this.

my friend told me that Abit has a good reputation, or should i just buy the intel i845 or 850 board?

plz share ur knowledge, cuz i need XP to be smooth!

i had a similar setup with the ecs and had no problems running it at 1.4.  i would try different ram. trying getting ram from www.crucial.com
if at first you dont succeed, call it version 1.0

the ram is not the issue,
i have 512 meg (infineo ram) the german company
i think its just the gefore3 and the buggy KA7S5 have conflicts
i\'m not sure tho.

will i tried another video card and another ram, but still the same problem.
i guess i found a better solustio which is to buy another mobo, and throw the ECS board out the window.
