Windows 2000 Hangs

I installed Windows 2000 Pro. The installation went normally but it hangs on boot-up.  Tried re-installing, same result.  I then installed XP Pro which works OK but really want 2000 on it.  Now Windows 2000 won\'t re-install because it is older OS than 2000 Pro.  My unactivated XP Pro will expire in 2 days.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I say stick with Xp and search the net for the activation carck im sure you will find it.

If you want to install an older OS on a new one the you will have to format the partition on which the current OS is installed.

Win2K does take longer to boot than other OSs.  Did it finally bring you to the desktop?  I would also suggest re-formatting and re-installing 2K.  IMO its MSs best OS.

I find 2k boots faster than 98 on my system , this is probably because 98 is so old and tweaked, unlike my 2k install were everything is twaeked, but the OS has been left stable:)

Interesting.  My 98SE system boots twice as fast as my 2K sys and I just installed 2K only a couple months ago.  My 98SE machine was re-formatted approximately 18 months ago.  Cheers.
