Linux Router question
« on: July 14, 2000, 12:52:12 AM »
I have a pretty simple question, which probably has a pretty simple answer.  I have two PC\'s connected to a linux router to get online.  Now, how can I give any kind of preference to one of these two PC\'s?  For example, on the \"secondary\" computer I want to have it set to download all night.  On the \"main\" one I want to surf occasionally throughout the night.  How can I tell \"router\" that any net requests \"main\" makes are of higher priority, thereby not seriously impacting my browsing times?

Hey I looked into this as well, and after a long search the best thing I found you could do is limit the total bandwidth of certain files.

i.e 10kb/sec max for all *.exe files.

But the end effect is that you can only limit by file types, and the more people that are downloading those file types the slower they all go because Linux allicates as above 10k maximum for all *.exe files
