I did get a new DVD burner. Things seem to be ok. You mentioned to let you know when I got my new burner. Its working so that's good.

Listen do I need all these things running. And has Java updated again?

Do you need all those things running? Nothing bad running in your log, but you may not need everything running
What are you worried about????

Yes, Java has updated

Here's what I suggest
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Enviroinment (JRE) 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement[/i]".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  and save it to your desktop (12.56 MB).
DON'T install it yet

Access add/remove programs and remove
Sun Java update 10

Reboot the computer
Install the latest version of Java

All else looks good, let me know what startup entries your worried about?

Ok I down loaded Java (jre) 6

Not worried about whats running. Just curios. I will just leave everything running run.

Now after reading Ep0xy's thread I'm a little concerned about what steps I can take to back up my system in the event I need to reformate.

So Doc, what steps do I need to start doing? I wanna do it right the first time. I suppose the best thing would be to invest in a external hard drive. Or burn to DVD disc's. What's your advice?

Depends how much you have to backup, mind you have an external harddrive is a good choice

You don't need to backup anything that you have on disks already
eg... Files/folders related to XP system files, etc..
Or you don't need to backup programs which would need to be reinstalled again later anyways

Just backup important files/folders you really don't want to lose
You can just copy>paste them to an external drive
I like to also keep a backup of my bookmarks/favorites
