Windows ME Performance
« on: September 05, 2002, 02:31:24 PM »
I recently tried Windows ME. I have Windows 2000, but I am seeking a simpler Operating System for game playing. Despite Windows ME being faster, the stability and memory management is horrible, even for a simple gamer. I would of guessed Windows ME was better for gaming since it\'s smaller and uses less memory than Windows 2000. I was wrong.

Simply minimizing the Windows Media Player window during MP3 playback cause playback lag for a second or two. This was fixed by disabling the Fading Effects. However, this was never an issue under Windows 2000. If I dared trying to start Blizzard\'s Warcraft III during MP3 playback, I was lucky if the playback simply lagged. Most of the time my computer would completly hang and I had to perform a cold boot.

Anyway, I am still not losing hope on Windows ME yet. I am sure it can be turned into a good gaming OS. I just need to fix those memory leaks.

Someone suggested \"Cacheman\" which apparantly manages memory properly. However, I would rather not rely on 3rd party applications if possible.

Does anyone have any tips or tweaks for Windows ME ?
