I would have tried this a long time ago, but I dont use NT nor do I have a copy of NT4.
The slipstream feature isnt present in NT4 service packs, but I dont see why you cant manually overwrite the NT4 files with the SP6 versions. Give it a try using a CDRW and dont forget to get the post SP6 update pack (seeing that SP7 has been cancelled)

It actually works fine, but then you wont be able to boot and make a clean install from that cd any more (after it has been slipstreamed some of the startup files wont work) but the new cd works fine for updating purposes.

There is no nice way of slipstreaming SP6 into NT4 you have to do it by first extracting the sp and then replace the old files with the new ones.

doing that doesnt modify the registry , so some of the fixes from the sp wont be there !

A whitepaper published by Microsoft actually indicates that SP6 CAN be integrated into the Windows NT installation!  The paper gives specific directions and shows how to incorporate IE into the install too! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

The paper is titled \"Preinstalling Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 6 for OEMs and System Builders Windows NT Development.\"

Submitted for your approval!!~~

No problem The_Flames.  I understand how some people concoct material to substantiate their opinions! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />  I didn\'t post the link on my last post because it is on the Microsoft OEM System Builder site.  You have to signup to get access to it.

The main site is:
http://oem.microsoft.com/

The direct link is:
http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/winNT_sp6pre.doc

Check the site for additional info.

My only problem is that it is still not a true slipsteam.  Same problem I have been running into with IE6 on the W2000 install.  True the $OEM$ method will install right after the original install but if you are having problems with the install itself it does not really help.  I would recommend following Bart\'s (www.nu2.nu) advice and do the following:
unpack SP6 into a temp folder
copy the following
ntldr
ntdetect.com
atapi.sys
and paste in your i386 folder.
It really does help the install go a little better.  At least I noticed a difference.

At least three files are now truly slipstreamed.... sort of http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
Hope this Helps,

Twinkie

Microsoft reports that NT doesn\'t support slipstreaming.  It was actually created before slipstreaming was conceived.  But the cool thing about the tech industry is the need to investigate alternate solutions! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

In my opinion, definitely try the solution proposed by Twinkie.  It can\'t hurt to try.  And I for one will sing wonderful praises to Bart\'s web site.  TONS of useful information.  If that doesn\'t work, try the one given by Microsoft.  Also, if you find another solution to this dilemma please come back and tell us!  I think we would all love to know! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

Good luck!

From http://home.earthlink.net/~vorck/

Q. Is it possible to slipstream Windows NT 4?
A. Sorta. Those integrated NT4 SP3 CD\'s you see around are hacked versions of NT4 Terminal Server or Backoffice Server or something (I forgot, I converted mine in 1998). The user deletes files, modifies .INF files, replaces some of these SP3 files with some (but NOT all!) files from SP5 or 6a like ATAPI.SYS, and with a few adjustments, you have a reasonably stable NT4 Server install which you must immediately apply SP5 or 6a to if you didn\'t set up the Service Pack file in $OEM$ on the CD. So, there\'s the answer to that. Yeah, I did it; lots of trial and error to figure out which SP3 files I could replace with SP5 files and not have a BSOD at install time. \"Slipstreaming\" NT4 this way is really a waste of time. Get your hands on Terminal Server and modify the .INF files to turn it into regular NT Server if you want to be able to install NT4 and have it be fairly stable out of the box.
