Just so I get a clearer picture
And make sure there are no other problems

Can you do the following please
From my signature below, download and save too a permanent folder of it's own onto your harddrive
Hijackthis 1.99.1
Open Hijackthis.exe

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

I just want to make sure it's not malware related

There was also a recent Windows Update that is causing this problem
Let's take a look at the log first, then we can determine if it is a recent Windows update

« Reply #3 on: April 17, 2006, 11:59:57 AM »
If your firewall is blocking verclsid.exe from running, allow it as it is related to a recent windows update

Now we'll try and fix the problem
Can you do the following for me please
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as Export.bat  <-I changed this, it is now properly named

Save this file on the desktop

Code: [Select]
regedit /e Export.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached"

Double click on Export.bat, a text file will open, can you copy and paste the whole contents back here please

The above will export that registry key
I just want to see if a value has been added and you just need to change the value data
Or you have to add the whole registry value to that key

EDIT>>Sorry, If you already did the above
I had you save the file as a .reg, I need you too save it as a .bat extension
My bad  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
I edited my instructions

"If your firewall is blocking verclsid.exe from running, allow it as it is related to a recent windows update"

How do I allow this program? I know how to allow regular programs (exceptions option), but I don't what verclisd.exe is? Do I use the same option in my firewall settings?

Here is the log file from export.bat

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached]
"{750FDF0E-2A26-11D1-A3EA-080036587F03} {000214E8-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401"=dword:00000001

Don't worry about the firewall quite yet

I see the whole registry value hasn't been added
Take from this page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

You can manually do the registry fix yourself from Microsoft, but I can hope that you do the below
As this might help others and most are not comfortable in the registry

Can you do the following please
This time I do need you too save this file as a .reg extension
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box, not including the word "code"
Paste it to the empty Notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop
Ensure to copy from REGEDIT4 and down in the code box

For Microsoft Windows XP-based or Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computers

Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached]
"{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0x401"=dword:00000001

For Microsoft Windows 2000-based computers
Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached]
"{A4DF5659-0801-4A60-9607-1C48695EFDA9} {000214E6-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"=dword:00000001

Using Windows Task manager, or better yet
Since you have Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION
Open PROCESS MANAGER
Left click to Highlight, then kill each instance of this process
C:\WINDOWS\system32\verclsid.exe

Code: [Select]
EDIT>>Noted from ydrog3's response:
Use of Windows Taskmanager appears to be what works best
However, if HP's share-to-web is the problem
Just merging the registry file and rebooting the computer should work
Close Hijackthis
Double click on fix.reg and allow to add/merge to the registry

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows let me know if that helps you out please

Oh, and could I see a new Hijackthis log when you are done please

Problems Internet Explorer Address bar

No need to do anything with the firewall if everything is working
It appears to be just Kerio so far that users have a problem with

Did you use the registry fix>>fix.reg to fix the problem?
Or did you manually do the fix?
Both will accomplish the same thing

I don't see multiple entries of
C:\WINDOWS\system32\verclsid.exe running anymore, that's good  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

I used the fix.reg, to fix the problem

Also, when I was trying to kill the verclsid.exe processes in hijackthis they were not removed from the list (after I selected them and pressed the "kill process" button), so I just used windows task manager to remove them.

other then that, it seems to be working now, Thanks for the help http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

I am having this same problem with the address bar.  I tried to fix it, but changing the registry key did not fix the problem.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

A hijackthis log may or may not help, but I suggest you start your own topic and post a Hijackthis log

This is an old topic, so I will lock it, any others with the same problem, ensure you have all the latest high priority updates from Windows Updates, this should help clear the problem
