Well, the only other thing you may want to try is a system restore to a point before the slowdowns
See if that's any help
Here's a link explaining
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...system-restore/

Take note of the recommendation of running it in Safe mode!

I tried the system restore point but the oldest one was five days and still the same problem. I think I got it sorted out though its running fine for now I reformatted the hard drive using windows factory image restore (at least I think thats what its called) and it seems ok. Thanks for your help http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Well, that was probably going to be the next step anyways  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
It appears that some software was causing problems, careful in what you install
Ensure to get your security software installed and updated

Do you still have your subscription to McAfee's?
Or do you need a free alternative?

Will do i'll be more cautious in what i install in the future!! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />  I have McAfees, just renewed the subscription last week for a year so hopefully it will prevent this from happening again! Thanks again  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
