[Customized BootDisk]
« on: October 22, 2002, 11:51:29 AM »
I want to make my own XP Pro bootdisk, based on a original bootdisk, but with external commands and programs added.
For example, the external command \"Deltree\" known from 9x is not on the original bootdisk.
my questions are as follows:

1-Does anyone have any tips about what files i should include?

2-If i burn all the files from the original XP bootdisk and the extra files i have gathered on a regular CD-R, will it boot like i want it to, or are there complications/problems with that?

deltree??? i dont think xp or 2k has deltree...cut out like the choice command from win9x

another thing...i think your really confused unless your talking about in console mode for xp bootdisk\'s...which there  is no need for the files are on the hdd so im back to thinking your really confused.

xp bootdisk\'s do not give you control like the old 98x\'s did. It start\'s by copying files and not stopping until you have to press enter or whatever.

now if your talking about a old 98x bootdisk to make then run setup of xp...yes do that..in fact that is the only way you can specify your xp install dir...how to get it to work on the othere i still cant muscle out.

for a 98x bootdisk make sure you use the .exe\'s and .com\'s from a 98 install...like dont try to use deltree from a dos 6.22 or else it might not work...basically most of the files you can use are on a 98machine in the C:windowscommand directory. yes deltree is highly needed...i have a 98bootdisk packed full with only 8bytes left of free space.

i always make sure i have ...well zhit here is my list

aspi [DIR]
aspi.bat
ASPICD.SYS
ATTRIB.EXE
AUTOEXEC.BAT
cda.exe
cdrom.bat
CHKDSK.EXE
CHOICE.COM
cmospwd.exe
cmospwd.zip
COMMAND.COM
config.sys
DEBUG.EXE
DELTREE.EXE
descript.ion
device.com
DISPLAY.SYS
DOSKEY.COM
FDISK.EXE
findcd.com
FIND.EXE
FINDRAMD.EXE
FORMAT.COM
HIMEM.SYS
IO.SYS
MEM.EXE
MOVE.EXE
MSCDEX.EXE
MSDOS.SYS
pciscan.exe
PKUNZIP.EXE
PKUNZJR.COM
scsi.map
sel.exe
SMARTDRV.EXE
SORT.EXE
SSCDROM.SYS
START.EXE
SYS.COM
XCOPY32.EXE
XCOPY32.MOD
XCOPY.EXE
xmsdsk.exe
ZORCH.COM

notice i have xcopy32.exe, xcopy32.mod, and start.exe. I dont need those in dos mode for they will not run. so i could leave them actually...i dont even know how they got on there to be honest (damn copy xcopy*.* command did me in i think)...and i just wanted to see if start would actually work at all...it didnt

all these files i have listed are from a 98se install..so if they were from a 95install they might work..but not all of them probably....like print wont from dos6.22 if that is any relevance.
