I removed the Java update stuff, but it's not letting me remove some of the norton stuff. Also, I'd like to install AVG 8 without that toolbar.

Looks like you missed some steps

Norton may leave a lot behind
I suggest that you next Download and run NORTON REMOVAL TOOL
Do all of STEP 3

Post a fresh Hijackthis log and let me know what route you would like to take with AVG 8
I may be able to help you install it without the additional toolbar,etc..
