Subject: Q329170 - Event ID: 1000 (Windows cannot unload your
registry file)
I\'ve been having problems with my Win2K Pro workstations lately.
Just thought I would share what\'s been going on. There *is* a
question at the end of this post. Please reply with your
comments/answers, etc.
==============================================================
I have personally experienced this issue on many Windows 2000
Professional boxes -- even a few that I have just built in the
past week. In every recent case, Event ID: 1000 only occured
after the installation my AntiVirus client, InoculateIT 6.0.
Uninstalling InoculateIT solved the problem 95% of the time, but
it is unacceptable to be unprotected. Here are a few things I
have noticed:
[LRS = Log off/Restart/Shut down]
The symptom only occurs with the Administrator account -- any
user account created after experiencing this issue seems to LRS
normally.
All affected workstations have had Win2K Professional installed
with either a SP2 or SP3 \"Slipstreamed\" CD.
A re-install of SP3 does not seem to fix this issue.
==============================================================
Removing the Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP4) Q329170 *DOES* seem
to fix this issue!!!
==============================================================
However, some workstations that have Q329170 installed are *NOT*
affected, and I believe that others have experienced this before
the release of Q329170.
Does anyone know the ramifications if I were to remove Q329170
in a production environment? When doing so on a test machine, a
warning that many applications and Hotfixes \"might not run
properly\" is displayed
