I downloaded Hijackthis, and I extracted in onto my desktop and it wont open http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

It won't even show underm my processes under my task manager http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

I also tried, both links you provided, and by buddy tried sending me the folder, and then just the .exe.  

Nothing seems to work.

Can you let me know what version of Windows your running please
Eg... Windows XP service pack 2

If unsure, go to START>RUN..
Type in winver then hit OK

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.


Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

• If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
• Tools->Options->Main tab

    * Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Allow it to, on startup it should run again, and produce a logfile, this can take up to 10 minutes

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\Combo-Fix.txt in your next reply
