Increase download speed
« on: July 10, 2009, 04:06:02 AM »
Hi,

I use a 1mbit wireless internet connection at home...and I use utorrent quite often...i have read various people saying they get speeds over 200 and 300 kbps...while mine seems to get stuck at max 120kbps....even for healthy downloads with tons of seeds available! my ports seem to b working ok and I have pretty much tried every other tip out there but nothing seems to break the 120kbps barrier...any suggestions or help wud b much appreciated!

Thanks!
Tanya

I don't know what your advertised rate is from your ISP
But you can do a bandwidth check at a location near you from here
http://www.speedtest.net/

Some ISP's also throttle bandwidth when it comes to P2P clients

Also, ensure you are using the latest version of Utorrent, and any other file sharing client is not running at the same time

How to improve your download speed?. Well, that is a common question asked in tech forums worldwide. There are many softwares out there which enhances the speed of a dial up connection upto 2-3 times. Many users in India get an internet connection, just for basic browsing and checking their emails. So a dial up connection would suffice to suit their needs. Well, what about the case of the other heavy internet surfers who download games, music, movies etc from the web. The question they frequently ask is how to improve the download speed of utorrent or any other torrent client for that  matter. The answer is that you simply cannot. You can however tweak your torrent client, in this case utorrent, by changing the port forward number, upload ratio, download ratio etc to increase the speed of your downloads. But still, you only get the maximum provided download speed allocated by your Internet Service Providers. The only remedy for this situation is to get a faster connection for a fairer price than your slower connection. you can chk the internet speed from ip speed test at free of cost
