Possible w2k bootscreen color hack?
« on: May 21, 2003, 07:22:20 PM »
VGA.DLL, I suppose (I dont know for sure), is loaded for graphics display at bootup.

What if VGA.DLL was renamed VGA_bkp.DLL

and a copy of VGA256.DLL was made, and named VGA.DLL....

(VGA.DLL
VGA video driver library

VGA256.DLL
VGA 256-color library)

I haven't tried yet, cause I want to get some feedback first. Anyone got any clues?

Okay, I think im gonna try it... but on another computer.

First, I'll begin by doing my DLL replacement. If it boots still, then I'll hack NTOSKRNL to have a 256 color bootscreen.

Everyone cross your fingers!!

Woo! Step #1 is finished.

With VGA.DLL replaced by a copy of VGA256.DLL, it still boots fine....

...now for 256 color bootlogo.
