I believe the server version is based on w2kpro with a few extras. Study the unattend.doc and check which options only apply to server, make a answer file for installing without the server options and you are done.

There is this nifty program NTswitcher that changes the Windows workstation to Windows Server, and the Windows server to Windows workstation, it changes some settings on the registry and then it prompts you to reboot.
I tried it with win NT, Win 2000 and Win XP even with the Windows.net server RC1, e-mail me and i\'ll send it to you as an e-mail attachment, is very small program about 700 kb.

NT switch does work. microsoft has done its best to eradicate the utility from the net. the simple fact is that the only difference between W2KPr0 and W2K server is a few lines in the regestry which tell the OS which it is supposed to be. W2K advanced server however does have more to it.

at any rate MS resents people being able to turn their 199.00 W2K pro versioons into the several hundred dollar server version.

you can probably still locate NTswitch thru the ste filemirrors, com

i tried some googling. seems like other ppl are sure that msoft has fooled them, but here is another view:

original question:
\"NTswitch - Has anyone used it?

I can find countless articles by people who have used NTswitch to change their 2000 or XP boxes from server to workstation or vice versa. They all seem to be stuck on the fact that the bootscreen and other little things change to read like they are servers and say that they have successfully changed their OS. I tried this and found that these are the ONLY things that change, server services and everything else that makes a server are totally not there. How is this a server? Am I missing a step or are they just stupid?\"
end question

answer
Actually my friend, i\'ve tried it too, and that\'s all that does change... the only real practical use is to install programs that require one or the other to install, like powertoys for example.. for XP, .NET doesn\'t support it, but if u switch to XP, apply ur changes, and go back to .NET, it should work, mind you it\'s only theory, i haven\'t tested that example yet, but it\'s the way it\'s SUPPOSED to work\"
end answer

from here.

the answer seems quite logical. imho.

I have used NTswitcher, is not the whole enchilada, is missing some files ie: you can switch  win2k pro to win2k server, but you can not install active directory because is missing all the files to run the program, you have not all of the administrative tools to configure the server (ie Licencing, is used to add or remove connections to the server, and you can not get over the ten connections limitation of win2k pro).
I guess you can use it to brag to your friends into thinking that you have a server OS system ; )

try this program: TweakNT, it'll disable the time bomb and you can switch to a different OS.
