Hi,
I recently purchased some components to upgrade my old man's computer online: new memory, cpu, and motherboard.
I've put these together for years so I do know what I'm doing, but I've not encountered a problem like this, I put the memory in (It's 800mhz RAMBUS RIMM), I put the C-RAM (continuity ram in, this is used kind of like a SCSI terminator), turn it on, and the bios beeps are telling me that the RAM is not detected.
I've tried just about everything I know, so it seems to me like a hardware defect, I can rule out the CPU, it's either the memory (which I'm led to believe it is), or the motherboard.
This is where my problem is, I don't have another stick of RAMBUS RIMM to fit in the board to see if it works, and I can't put any other type of memory in the board (obviously), so I don't know for sure which it is (I ordered the memory and the board from two different companies) so I want to know which is defective before I send the hardware back.
Now, my question to you is, is there some kind of device to check the integrity of the RAM, so I can see if it's defective without buying another stick (most stores have bad return policies, so I can't just buy a stick, test it, and return it no quesitons asked). There may be a lack of such device, and if this is the case another question of mine - is there any places around that will test this memory for me, like a best buy or something? There are local computer shops around but they won't.
Thank you,
