The following is a summary of the problems that I have encountered with IE:
- The computer will not print or print preview in Internet Explorer
- Links that open new Internet Explorer pages or Java windows will not work...nothing happens when the user clicks a link , you can not right click the link and select open in a new window
- The computer is not able to search for files or folders from the Start menu...Click the Start button - Search - Files or Folders Nothing happens
This does not happen on every computer and it appears to happen after the computer is in service. That is they work properly when they are first rolled out.
This is happening on a random selection of computers (Compaq, Northern Micro, IBM) The computers in question are all Windows 2000. Win98 users do not appear to be affected.
We have tried the following so far.
1*Repair on Internet Explorer 5.5.
2*Unlocked the browser - (set the autoconfig to 0)
3*Internet Explorer is set as the default browser. Cleared cache and cookies.
4*Removed and reinstalled IE5.5 along with all the approved patches.
5*Removed IE 5.5 and installed IE6.
6*Microsoft knowledge base suggested re-registering some DLL's.(urlmon.dll,shdocvw.dll)
What is interesting to note is that a machine which had this problem was reimaged. The problem went away but resurfaced one month later.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
