Win 2k Internet C Sharing Cant retrieve mail >>

I cant retreive mail form the remote pc?

I have internet connection enabled on,
My machine is the machine connecting to the internet.
(ME)Machine is the networked Pc / Internet connection sharing.
I can share the connection and browse the internet from both machines but,
My machine is ok for send/recieving mail but the (ME) machine wont?
Again you can browse the internet on the (ME) machine
but send/recieve reports \"couldnot find pop3\"
The settings are fine as if a boot back up in Win ME then the mail send recive is fine using both machines?

The (ME) Machine did work only once which makes this more confusing? It was purley random when it worked, no settings were changed or anything ?

I used the connection sharing wizard in windows me to set up the machine both running on me (Works fine).
Now if i\'m in Win 2k the above happens,
I created the new DUN connection and enabled the sharing option \"Internet sharing\"
Strange why you can browse the internet but not receive any mail ?

Ive narrowed this problem down a bit more!!
When trying to send mail is the problem.
Both Machines can recive Mail,
But if trying to send mail then it fails.
Im using a modem and using the smtp.freeserve.net
which is correct in the winME environment?

Is there a diffrent protocol for Win 2k ?

Two possibilities (that I know of)..

1)  Your ISP prevents connections to 3rd-party SMTP servers (by blocking port 25).  They do this to prevent spammers.  In this case there is really nothing you can do.  To work around this problem I use the SMTP server of my ISP (peoplepc.com) to send mail for my other email account (an .edu).  If you set your return address to the address you check, most people won\'t be able to tell the difference.

2)  In the ICS Settings page, make sure you have enabled SMTP.  It\'s not by default.

I ran into this same problem. What i had to do was on the host pc send out a mail to myself. After you get the mail pull the properties of the mail by right clicking it and find the actual mail server path.for example ( My host pc has an address of \"mail\" for the pop server for my cable account but on the client side i have to use the full path because client is lookin to the host for the mail server not the web. The full path looked like this \"mail.rdc1.tx.home.com\".  After doing this my client found server outside the host pc.P.S   The properties of the mail you check will probably list many servers . Just try them all until one works. You may have to use a mail that someone else sent you instead of the one you send to yourself.
