HELP! ANOTHER CLICKSEARCHCLICK VICTIM!!!
« on: May 29, 2005, 04:13:48 PM »
I have run through a few threads with clicksearchclick advice, and yet the problem isn't gone.

I screwed up my roomate's computer, and he will be pissed when he comes back and finds it in this condition. Please help me ASAP! Thanks so much...

HERE, as I have learned from watching others, is my HJT log....

« Reply #1 on: May 29, 2005, 04:31:42 PM »
Can you do the following please
It may help if you print out these instructions, or save them too a Notepad file on the desktop for reference

==Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
* UNZIP it to your desktop or a folder

Disconnect from the Internet, close all browser windows

Open a Notepad file..Go to START>>RUN>>Type in notepad
Hit OK

I need you to copy all of the Killbox file paths below and paste them into Notepad.

* Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

Killbox file paths to copy and paste to Notepad between dotted lines
===========================================
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{77DC22F1-6F4B-4CBD-A721-448F7577346A}\SVCHOST.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{77DC22F1-6F4B-4CBD-A721-448F7577346A}\SECURITY.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe

===================================================
*  Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button.  Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.  Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Back in Windows
Don't open a browser yet

Instead
Find and delete this folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services <-this folder

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.clicksearchclick.com/index.php?aff=9

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Service Host] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{77DC22F1-6F4B-4CBD-A721-448F7577346A}\SVCHOST.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Disk Keeper] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{77DC22F1-6F4B-4CBD-A721-448F7577346A}\SECURITY.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Srv32 spool service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Srv32 spool service] C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart the computer again

Back in Windows

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Ensure you have this version>>Free or paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer to finish the cleaning process

Back in Windows

Run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log

HELP! ANOTHER CLICKSEARCHCLICK VICTIM!!!
« Reply #3 on: May 29, 2005, 06:07:34 PM »
I should of checked for this earlier,
Can you do the following for me please

==Download RKFiles.zip from the link
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
UNZIP the contents to it's own folder

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Important
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Open the folder you unzipped rkfiles.zip too
Double click to run Rkfiles.bat
Wait for the scan to finish, give this time
When it's done a log will be produced, save this log
By default, it is saved to C:\Log.txt

Restart back to Normal mode

Back in windows

Could you post the log produced by Rkfiles.bat
C:\Log.txt

Could you also
Download and UNZIP to desktop or a folder Get2.zip
So you now have Get2.bat extracted
Double click on Get2.bat and a text file will appear on the desktop or folder
Called Export2.txt

Can you copy and paste the contents back here

Can you do the following

Run KillBox.exe
In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste the entire line directly below in bold, do not type this in

C:\WINDOWS\system32\srpcsrv32.dll

Select the radio button to
 Delete on Reboot
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Delete on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click NO

Do the same for these paths to the file names

C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html
C:\WINDOWS\system32\txfdb32.dll

Don't worry about no file found message if prompted

Allow the computer to Reboot
or Restart anyways when you've entered the last full path to the file name

Back in Windows
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open Display Properties.
3. Click the Desktop tab.
4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
5. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
6. Uncheck "Security" or  Make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.
OK your way out
Log off your user account and log back on again if anything unchecked

Run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log

HELP! ANOTHER CLICKSEARCHCLICK VICTIM!!!
« Reply #7 on: May 31, 2005, 06:46:25 PM »
If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"

Also, I know this isn't your computer, but you should remind your roommate
If this is a legit version of Windows, he/she is way behind on Windows updates
I would visit Windows updates and install all Latest Critical Updates and Service Packs
Please read this
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

Also, their version of Java is outdated, I never find the updater that reliable
Personally, I would access the Add/Remove programs and remove the version of Java you have installed now and then download and install the latest version from this link
I like to go with the Windows offline installation
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Hey, I'm having problems with this clicksearchclick thing and found this forum. These people seem to be getting help so I'll see what happens.

To make sure that this is the same problem, I'm getting a lot of links that link to that stupid clicksearchclick thing and a lot of pop-ups and my homepage keeps being changed to clicksearchclick.

Anyway, here is my log file:
