MCAFEE REPORTS PUP called MSCLOCK.DLL
« on: February 06, 2006, 08:20:53 PM »
I have been getting a message from McAfee Virusscan about a PUP called msclock.dll. In recent times my pc has also been giving me a cmos checksum error when booting up. I think this error is causing my PC to not retain time ie. after boot it tends to go to Feb 2001 time and not the current time. this affects how my Zonealarm works as i need to reset the time to current time of else Zonealam gives me a vsinit.dll error.

Appreciate your help

MCAFEE REPORTS PUP called MSCLOCK.DLL

Quote
cmos checksum error
It could be due to malware on the computer, which you do show signs of infections
Could also mean that your Cmos battery is going dead
If so, as soon as your clean, or earlier, replace this battery
Easy to replace if you are comfortable with the inside of the computer

Let's see what we can clean
If you didn't pay for AdAware Alert
I would uninstall it, we'll get you free tools that do a better job

Can you post the following please
Download F-Secure's BlackLight from HERE and save it to your Desktop.
Locate and double click blbeta.exe to run it - you will need to accept the license agreement.

Click the Scan button to start and then Next when it has finished scanning.(this scan won't take too long)
A text file, fsbl-date/time, will be saved to your Desktop, copy and paste this into your next post.
Do Not use the Rename option, I want to see this log first as some legit entries can be found

Additionally:
Save Silent Runners.vbs to your desktop and double click on it to run.
If prompted by your AV, please let this script run, we are just collecting information

This will create a text file on your desktop
Open the text file and copy and paste the contents back here

NOTE: let silentrunners completely finish, it should prompt when it is done

« Reply #3 on: February 08, 2006, 10:47:38 PM »
Can you do the following please

Print these instructions or save them too a text file

=Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run it yet

==Download and Install Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido anti-malware 3.5

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

I need you too make a folder called BFU in the Root directory
To do this, do the following
Can you open "MyComputer"
Double click to open Local Disk C: drive
Right click an empty spot  and left click NEW>>Folder
A new folder will be placed in the C: folder , name it BFU
So you now have C:\BFU

==Download and save and then UNZIP to the BFU folder
BFU.zip
So you now have BFU.exe extracted
It should be placed in the BFU folder and be located here
C:\BFU\bfu.exe

==RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download EGDACCESS Remover. Save it in the folder you made earlier
C:\BFU folder
You should now have this file save to the BFU folder in this Exact location
C:\BFU\EGDACCESS.bfu

Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
Paste into the empty notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet
Ensure to save REGEDIT4 and below in the code box

Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"cfvdtoku"=-

Again
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
Paste to the empy notepad file
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as findEGDA.vbs

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet
Ensure to save REGEDIT4 and below in the code box

Code: [Select]
Dim Wshshell, fso ,ts , R, ArrR ,i
Const ForReading = 1

Set Wshshell = Wscript.CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
Set fso = Wscript.CreateObject("Scripting.FilesystemObject")

Wshshell.run "regedit /a /e runnow.txt HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

Do until fso.FileExists("runnow.txt")
Wscript.sleep 100
Loop
Set ts = fso.OpenTextFile("runnow.txt" ,ForReading)
Do while not ts.AtEndOfStream
R = ts.Readall
loop
ts.close

R = Replace(R, "\\", "\")
R = Replace(R, Chr(34), "")

ArrR = Split(R,vbcrlf)
For i = 0 to Ubound(ArrR)
  F =  Lcase(right(ArrR(i),6))
If F = "-start" Then
 ArrR(i) = Replace(arrR(i), "-start" , "-uninstall")
 ArrR(i) = Mid(ArrR(i),Instr(ArrR(i),"=") + 1)
MsgBox ArrR(i)
Wshshell.Run ArrR(i)
  End IF
Next

Set ts = nothing
Set fso = nothing
set wshshell = nothing

Go to the desktop and double-click on edgafix.vbs  to run it.
If you have a resident script blocker it may warn you about or stop the vbs script. Please allow it, it is harmless.
You will get a prompt looking like this
c:\windows\system32\random.exe -uninstall

Click OK to execute that command.
You will be prompted if you are sure you want to uninstall. Confirm.

After a little while you will get a prompt the application was removed.
If the above doesn't go as described
I need you too follow all the below instructions regardless!!!!!!

Proceed with the following
Open the BFU folder
Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to EGDACCESS.bfu in the BFU folder
Right click EGDACCESS.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Let it finish then Exit

Open blbeta.exe (blacklight) again.
Click Scan>>>Next

When it's done
It will show you these next entries, all may not be found:

C:\windows\system32\cfvdtoku.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku_nav.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku_navps.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msplock32.dll

Now select each entry and click the 'rename' button.
Do this for all of them.
Blacklight adds the rename to those entries.
Click next and it will tell you that those files will get renamed and if you are sure. Click
Yes>>OK
Then it will ask you to reboot.
Click yes.
Your system must reboot now.

RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter

Find and delete the follow files that were renamed by blacklight
Noticed the extension change to .ren
C:\windows\system32\cfvdtoku.exe.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku.dat.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku_nav.dat.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfvdtoku_navps.dat.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msplock32.dll.ren

Set the program up as follows:

Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
