I am using resource hacker to modify my ntoskrnl.exe file and put in a custom bitmap for the boot process. I make the new ntoskrnl.exe in a seperate directory and then reboot in safe mode with prompt and copy the newly modified ntolkrnl.exe to the system32 directory. When I reboot the screen just stays blank. Any ideas?? Does the bitmap need to be specifically 16 colors? If so, how can I do this with Photoshop?

OK I am having the exact same problem...

I have tried this about 10 times & am SURE SURE SURE that I am following the instruction EXACTLY as the page says!!!!!

Use Paint shop pro, do NOT use photoshop!!

Me too - I\'m using Photoshop and can\'t get it to work either.

When I load the new palette, the bitmaps stay black!

I am using Paint Sho Pro 6.0 And I have successfully created my own images into ntoskrnl.exe, but For some reason when i reboot and push F8 and try to reboot in safe mode with command prompt...a whole bunch of [censored] comes up but nevers goes into safe mode. So I tried a new way...

This seems alot easier for me...but it still does not work. Now if i were too take the original file out and place it someplace else and put my new file in, would it work? Or will my computer not boot up?

I\'m using PhotoShop 6.0 and I\'ve gotten it to work. You just need to download the 16.pal file and find it and goto something like image>mode>index
then do something like custom or the \"load\" button then find the pal file. Then when you save the file it HAS to be indexed AND the same pal or it wont work.
