Ventrilo Issues
« on: September 20, 2006, 05:21:42 PM »
Hey,

I have an issue with me and Ventrilo program. It's been bugging me for weeks, maybe even months now, and see if you guys can fix it for me.

My problem with Ventrilo is latency issues. Whenever I talk in any server, I start to reached anywhere from 1000-26000 ping leading to an immediate disconnect from the server. I've redownloaded Ventrilo to see if that could fix the problem. Nothing happened. I set all my settings to default. Nothing happened. I even went out to buy a new mic for it. Nothing happend.

The weird thing about the problem is that I work fine with TeamSpeak and in-game voice chat with Day of Defeat/Counter-Strike/Etc. So, I know it has to do with the program one way or another. If you guys need any information from me I will be glady to give it to you to get it fix. It's an urgent thing for me now to get it fixed. I'll be thankful if you guys could.

I'm not sure if I can help with this, but let's see if we can uncover anything

From my signature below, download and save too a permanent folder of it's own onto your harddrive
Hijackthis 1.99.1
Open Hijackthis.exe

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

what updates, Windows updates?
Is this copy of Windows legit
If you just did Windows updates you should be up to Service pack 2
Are you disabling anything from running on startup with msconfig or a startup utility?

I can't get you the system specs now but I can later. It's a pretty old computer that was handed down by my older bro who builds them, I can ask him about everything that's inside.

It looks as if you have Non genuine copy of XP installed
That is why no updating at Windows

I won't fool you, your system is Wide open for attacks, if it hasn't been compromised already
without the necessary security updates installed from Windows

First create a fresh restore point
Go to START>>Programs>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Click Create a new restore point
Name it and click CREATE

If you can, to help with some security on this system
it's a big download, if you have a fast connection
Download the network installation of SP1A to desktop
from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/network.mspx
or try the Express installation from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...1/expresso.mspx

Or if a friend has Service pack 2 CD, use that

Install the service pack
Reboot the computer

Back in Windows

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
I want to see what it comes up with

Also, post a fresh hijackthis log

I followed your EXACT instructions and once I reach "save the log on your desktop" and open the file with notepad/wordpad nothing appears in it. It is solid white, blank. I don't know what went wrong, tried some help from Mr. Bell but we couldn't get it to work either.

He ran it. However he claims he couldn't get his note pad to show results. idk your directions are pretty simple to follow. When he talks in Ventrio he lags out. I had him delete it and close all other programs and down load it again and same thigg happens. Kids, what can you do you know. I don't think his copy of XP is legit either.

Looks like this topic on Ventrilo recieced a lot of views.

Sometimes just getting some windows updates can resolve a lot of issues
Also, having no AV software and the possibility of being infected can cause issues
That is why I want to see the Dr.Web log

Have him run Dr.Web in safe mode with no Internet connection!!!

A test I did about 4 months ago
Installed Windows 2000, much like XP
On a test box I had sitting around
No Windows updates, I was infected within 3 minutes after being online
All of which affect your Internet conntection, that is why updates are so important

Lag can occur in many issues
Has he seen the FAQ of Ventrilo?

I went into safe mode once I started my computer and disabled my internet connection. I ran Dr. Web with the settings that I was told and 0 results came up. I went to file, saved the log on my desktop. I opened it but nothing showed up.

Also, I don't lag in TeamSpeak servers but I do in Ventrilo.

Ventrilo Issues
« Reply #19 on: September 23, 2006, 05:48:27 PM »
Also, I tried the ventrilo server on another computer in my house and it seems to work fine. Narrowed it down to the problem is that computer only. I think your right about the internet to my computer and security.
