Norton Antivirus 2001/2002 can be installed with the latest virus updates without having to manually update them after installing.
1) Install NAV 2001/2002 from the CD or HDD
2) Download the latest 3 MB SARC Intelligent Updater (
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ ) & run it.
3) Copy the contents of the NAV 2001/2002 CD to a temporary location on the HDD (eg. C:NAV2002 )
3) Browse to X:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedVirusDefs folder and locate the folder that has the latest virus updates (this folder should have been created by SARC Updater and _NOT_ LiveUpdate). The name usually bears the date of the updater release.
4) Copy the contents of the above found folder to the \'VirusDef \' folder of the CD (eg. C:NAV2002Virusdef ) ie. overwrite the older files.
5) Install using the new definitions from the HD or burn a CD and install using that from now on.Your new installations will have the updated virus definitions.
Burn a CD. Then import the previous session (of the CD) and overwrite only the files in the \"VirusDef\" folder with the new ones. Remember not to Close/Finalize the CD. That way your CD is upto date.
NOTE : Do not use the folders/files created by LiveUpdate as they might not have the complete set of virus definitions.
