what is LSASS.EXE ? and having mouse trouble

Hi...... I actually have more than one problem.....My mouse works & suddenly stops working....I used my keyboard shortcuts to get to the Control Panel & Mouse Properties.....My mouse wasn't even listed under Mouse Properties Hardware.....Then it suddenly appears & is working properly....lol.... My other problem ( or maybe not )  I see LSASS.EXE in Windows Task Manager Processes.......Should that even be there ?....I am running XP Pro ( and it tells me it's not a genuine copy ) .... It's normal to see lsass.exe in task manager
Your mouse could just be a hardware problem, BUT
If your version tells you it's not a Genuine copy, chances are, it isn't
Where did you buy your computer? Who installed the operating system?
Phone them and ask them why it's not Genuine
Should you get Microsoft involve << May be a question you want to ask them???

If you would like a double check on other software on your computer
Download Hijackthis 1.99.1 from my signature below
SAVE it to your desktop

Double click on hijackthis_sfx.exe on desktop
Click the UNZIP button>>OK the prompt
This will self extract to C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Delete hijackthis_sfx.exe from desktop

Go to START>>RUN
Copy>>paste the following to the open field, then hit OK
%systemdrive%\Program Files\HijackThis
This will open the Hijackthis folder
RIGHT CLICK on Hijackthis.exe and select SEND TO>>Desktop (create shortcut)
You can now run Hijackthis.exe from the new shortcut placed on your desktop

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here

Just for some cleanup
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

The rest looks good, what kind of mouse do you have
A ball>>Optical?
USB or PS2?
Have you tried another mouse?

Are you disabling anything from running on startup?
