when you are booting into dos you don\'t have any access to NTFS partitions and the whole nine yards right.

ok when you start the install from dos w2k needs to load all these services and drivers up for supporting different things ie. NTFS support.

and becuse M$ doesn\'t want you to ahve NTFS access they require you to restart the system and then boot off of their loader that will load everything that you see while booting off the CD rom.

in short all the files that are copied to the hard drive from dos are the files that are loaded while booting from the cd drive. if you wish to make this faster start smartdvr before starting the setup from dos.
