XP help - NEED HELP!!
« on: August 30, 2002, 11:20:12 PM »
Hi, I need someone to answer a question for me.
I have windows Xp and recently it decided to just stop working...let me explain; when I turn on the computer it starts up normally to about halfway between the logo and the login.  Then it just decides to flash a bluescreen with words on it that is too fast for my eyes to read.  It will then restart and continue through this loop continuously with no ways to get into windows and repair this problem.  Safemode doesn\'t work and neither do any of the other options.  Even the repair option from the cd doesn\'t fix it.  I need some help please!
My computer is/has the following hardware:
AMD 1700xp+ PROCESSOR
KT3 Ultra MOTHERBOARD
128MB PC2100 kingston RAM
Radeon 7000 VIDEO CARD
3com 3c905B-TX NETWORK CARD
80GB WD 8mb HARD DRIVE
300w POWER SUPPLY

Failing that have you changed any hware recently?

Here try this one on for size.

boot off the windows xp cd and go into the recovery console, this is not the F2 ASR at the begining.

when inside of recovery cnosole go to the  folder and rename the system and software files.

now go to the %systemroot%repair folder and copy the system and software files into the %systemroot%system32config folder.

then exit out of recovery console

This is what we call swapping our the system and software registry hives. if the problem is registry based then this will fix it. but there is a side affect to this. you will loss all you software and you drivers for a little while.

OK if the system boots up now go into the system restore. start > accesories > system tools > system restore. and restore to a point in time that is before this started to happen.

this is the fastest way i know of getting the system back up and working properly.

and PS, the flashing blue screen can be prevented in the future by right clicking on my computer > advanced > start up and recovery > uncheck the auto reboot and set the crash dump to complete.

if that doesn\'t do it message me or post again.

Awesome advice tracky.

Also my friend had that problem...still does every now and then.

His is a none legit copy of xp corp.

What it seems to do i guess is update itself even if you have autoupdate off. When it does, my friend said he\'s had 2 different effect\'s. I have not seen this exact issue but i have seen the one that mentions need a new key.

He also has his set previously to what tracky has mentioned and he has also done several other things that could cause this...but none have solved his problem.

btw i need a new post
