Bootable HD on 2 PCs
« on: October 08, 2002, 09:01:22 PM »
I have W2K server edition on my PC.
When I take my HD and put in in an other PC (as the only HD), It cannot boot anymore, and I get a blue screen half filled with hex codes.
Is that Normal ?
(I tried that with 2 different HDs and 3 PCs)

Yes,
That is normal if the chipset changes on an NT based OS it will blue screen. NT is hardware specific. Unfortuantly, if your looking to use one ahrd drive between 2 machine i have not found a way to do this.

Have you tried with both PCs having the same configuration. IE. same motherboard, same chipset, and peripherals in the same PCI slots?  You should be able to do  if the configuration matches......it is when the chipset and ide controllers differ that you get a hung startup.

It is a feature of NT that you cant change hardware much like a SID. The fake way around this is to overload ..or install over your OS. or you can sysprep
