Editing a game file
« on: September 17, 2008, 02:24:18 AM »
Hey, new here and had a quick question. I am trying to edit a game file for a cheat http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> . I am told to create a backup copy and then use a text editor to edit the "standard.sam" file in the "levels" sub-directory inside the game directory. May be a novice question but I tried what I thought would work and I am having problems. Help! Can't find help anywhere so figured I would post. Thanks a lot in advance

What exactly is the problem you are having?

From the sound of it, all you need to do is open up Notepad and open the file in question, perform the edit, and save the new file, overwriting the old version.

Thanks for the response http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

I have tried that and when I try to save the new file a message pops up that says    This file is set to read-only    Try again with a different file name

I have tried doing a new file name, and then deleting the old one but the old one won't delete. I figured I am either screwed or just being real dumb.

Can you right click on the file and select Properties
Untick the Read Only attribute?
You may have to do this in a command prompt window
