Can you post the following for me please
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >>here<< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to launch program.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:  log.txt<-- this will be maximized and info.txt<-- this will be minimized.
Can you post Both those logs please

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Can you upload log.txt please
Save a copy of log.txt to desktop, or a copy can also be found in the C:\rsit folder

Then, in a reply box back to here, use the
Browse.. and the UPLOAD buttons on the bottom right of the reply box to attach a copy back to your reply

Can you do the following for me please
Then we'll try some fixes

You have many entries disabled by msconfig, i would like to see them all on startup, so that we can remove some bad ones properly, leave legit ones enabled

Go to START>>RUN>>type in the following
msconfig

Then hit OK
Under the GENERAL tab, select Normal Startup
Apply then Close it
DO NOT Restart the computer when prompted
Instead, come back here
Run a fresh Scan and save logfile with Hijackthis and post that log please

let's use Hijackthis to disable some entries, then we'll still have a bit of cleaning to do
Plus we must update some of your software later to ensure you have the latest security updates

But first:

Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Ok, let's try an update some of your software
We'll see how you look afterwards:

Can you first do the following
Close down all browser windows
Access your Add and Remove programs and remove all older updates/versions of Java

this includes
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 12
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2

Reboot the computer after both are removed
Back in Windows

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select Windows,>>Check the "agree" box and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
When that's done
Let's remove the older versions of Acrobat Reader
This includes
Adobe Acrobat 4.0
Adobe Acrobat 5.0
Adobe Download Manager 2.0

We'll update this in a bit, but first, can you let me know if you would like to remain with Acrobat as your pdf viewer
Or try a slimmer pdf reader

In addition, remain in Add/Remove and remove the following
Viewpoint Media Player

Also, I see all the following installed
Ad-Aware
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
XoftSpySE

We should properly update Spybot in a bit, but can you let me know what version of Ad-Aware you have installed please

Also, did you just recently install both SuperAntispyware and XoftSpySE
Just trying to get an idea of the protections you may need

Let's try and slim some of your spyware scanning programs

Ad-Aware is out of date
Can you access your Add and Remove Programs and uninstall it
In addition, can you uninstall also
SuperAntispyware and Xoftspy

In addition, Uninstall both instances of Spybot in Add and Remove programs

Reboot the computer afterwards

I would opt to hold onto Malwarebytes, update and run a quick scan occassionally
Back in Windows

Find and delete the following folder
C:\rsit

Go to START>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Select>>Create a New restore point
Give it a name, any name,
 and click Create
Windows will prompt when it was created successfully
When that's done

Go to START>>RUN>>type the following
cleanmgr
Hit OK
Let if finish calculating

Select the More Options tab
and click Cleanup.. under 'System Restore'
This will clear all later restore points except for the one you just made

Ok the prompts, it may take a few seconds to remove old restore points
Ok again after it's ready and let it finish cleaning

I suggest that you add SpywareBlaster to your protection software
SpywareBlaster  by JavaCool
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection Status" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
"Check for updates every couple of weeks"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
or again, click on Protection Startus>>enable all protection

Let's ensure you have Spybot updated and properly installed
Go to the following link
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Spybo...oy/1043809773/1

Download>Save> and install the latest version of Spybot
When installing, ensure to untick the TeaTimer option, as you had it disabled earlier
Search for updates
After updating, click on the Immunize button
and then Immunize all unprotected areas
Works much the same as SpywareBlaster, just adds some extra settings

NOTE: It is your choice to let Spybot Immunize your Global Hosts
Or untick that option at the bottom of the Immunize screen beforehand
If you choose to Immunize it
Go to START>>RUN>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
Look for the following service on the right hand side
DNS Client
Double click on it to open
Stop the service if running
Set the startup type to Manual

A slimmer PDF reader
Try downloading and installing
Foxit Reader 2.3 (Installer: .exe, 2.57 MB)

Check for updates occassionally from the Foxit Help menu button
You won't need all updates, you can highlight each one and read a brief description

Let me know if it suits your needs please

I recommend Firefox, but it's your choice

I forgot about OTMoveit
Can you do the following please
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Click the Cleanup! button
A list will be downloaded>>Allow it Internet access if prompted by your Firewall
Don't change anything in this list
  • Select Yes at the prompt
Wait for the confirmation box to open to reboot the computer
Don't mouseclick during the wait as you may cause the tool to stall
  • Select Yes to reboot Now
NOTE: This procedure will also delete OTMoveit.exe from desktop

Let me know how everything is now running, I'll lock this topic if your problems are resolved

Are you still getting the
"internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" messages?
