Did you ISP assign you IP addresses
when you first connected with them?

I don't think Rogers in the Ontario area does, unless you actually call them and request a Static
This may be the problem

It does seem odd that you use to be able to connect with Auto assigned (Dynamic) and now you can only connect with Static

Do you know how to enter your Routers configuration?
Can you checks it's configuration and see if it's set to Dynamic please
The router is definatley set to Dynamic. We werent assigned ip's from rogers when we signed on with them. and yea it use to connect to the network without having to set it to static. While looking through my hijack this log you didn't come accross any viruses or questionable entries?

I didn't see nothing out of the ordinary
But you posted a log from an outdated Hijackthis

If possible
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from >>here<< and save it to your desktop.
 • Double click on RSIT.exe and choose to Run it
 • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
 • Your firewall may alert you that RSIT is requesting Internet access. Please allow it.
 • Once it has finished, two logs will open:  log.txt<-- this will be maximized and info.txt<-- this will be minimized.
Post both those logs please

NOTE: If you get an error message trying to post the logs back here to the forum
Just post info.txt back here
And upload log.txt

In addition, you should download the manual for your router
Here's a link
http://support.dlink.com/products/revision.asp
There are 3 types of your Router with Rev A,B, D
Select the appropriate model

Then download the manual, I would ensure you have the latest Firmware installed for your Router also
In the manual, you'll find great steps for set up on Dynamic(Cable)

Follow the steps closely
You should be able to go back to the network adapters properties
and change to Obtain IP address auto and DNS servers
Rebooting and see if can connect

Besides your Java being a bit outdated, the logs look good

I've updated the drivers for both my wireless network adapter and the router. I've gotten the wired network to connect on obtain ip address automatically. The wireless adapter, however, will connect to the network but, still, not to the internet. I went into ipconfig and looked around and I noticed when the adapter is set to obtain ip address automatically it says the DHCP server is 255.255.255.255 and the default gateway is blank.

on the wired network it says the dhcp and gateway are 192.168.0.1 Should the wireless network not say the same thing. With the wireless adapter on a static ip i still couldnt get the internet but i could get connected to the network. thanks for all your help so far

Can you go to START>>RUN...type in cmd

Hit OK

at the prompt, type in ipconfig /all
Note the single space after ipconfig

copy/paste the output to a text file then post it back here
To copy, left click the top left corner of the command prompt box and select
Edit>>Select All
Then click again, Edit>>copy

Ok, looks as if you are set to Auto obtain IP and Auto Dns
ensure you are
Then try the following
Disable the Wired connection and leave Wireless enabled
disable the Windows Firewall

Power off the modem and Router again
Turn off All computers in the household, including this laptop

Cycle on the modem, let it detect
Turn on Router, let it detect
Turn on laptop, see if you can see Internet

Okay, try the following
Enter your Router configuration from
192.168.0.1 in a browser address bar

What kind of Security do you have enabled?
Can you disable the security totally, leave it unsecured for the time being

Open the properties of the Wireless adapter in Network connections

Under Wireless Networks>>preferred networks,
remove them all
Shut down the laptop
Cycle the Router

Start laptop and try connecting to the unsecured wireless
See if you can obtain an IP

Take a look at Page 47 or so of the manual, recheck your configuration

Take note of the following under Configure WPA-PSK
It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish
wireless connectivity before enabling encryption.
Your wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to
the added overhead.

Did you right click on your wireless icon by the clock
and view available wireless networks
Select yours and enter the Exact passphrase?

Edit>>and ensure to reboot the laptop after reenabling encryption

Yes, I selected the appropriate ssid and entered the correct passphrase and have read that section of the manual, I can get a connection without encryption using a static ip

I thought you had connection wirelessly earlier with Auto obtain IP?
I'm starting to be at a loss here as to what's going on

Try router encryption again, this time only with WEP
See if you can connect after reboot

Are you were able to disable the Wireless security and connect
with Auto obtain IP? Did you try that?
Change wireless adapter to Auto obtain IP and DNS
Shut down

Disable wireless security on Router
Cycle router

Reboot laptop and try and connect
If it connects, it is probably a setup problem with your Router

Do you have any other friends, family with wireless router you can try to connect too that are close by
Having the wireless adapter set to Auto
This would help to figure out the problem
I'm really starting to believe it's all Router configuration

Are you using Windows to configure your wireless, or another wireless utility?
