Java installs a quick Starter service that is not required to run on startup
Open Windows Control Panel> Open the Java icon
Under the ADVANCED tab, expand on "Miscellaneous"
UNCheck "Java Quick Starter"
Apply and OK out of there

Double  click on OTL.exe and Run it
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, copy/paste in the following in the quote box below. don't include the word Quote please
    Quote
    :OTL
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0
    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"=-
    :Files
    :Commands
    [EmptyTemp]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

On startup, Allow OTL to run if prompted
Let me then know how things are running

Ensure to reenable AVG protections
If AVG finds anything else, let me know what folder it's finding the problems

I ran a scan with trend micro house call and it came up with nothing. The last AVG Scan I think came up clean also. Things seem to be running smooth. Anything else I can do? One important thing I'd like to do is get the computer to boot up without that option screen. I just erased hijack this and otl... With hijack this I used the uninstaller, OTL I just deleted the exe. Hopefully that was ok? I don't know why I did that. Anyhow, I'm going to slap my hands and cross my fingers in hopes that I didn't make a mistake.

OTL I just deleted the exe. Hopefully that was ok? I don't know why I did that.

Let's properly remove it please, normally we could just run Cleanup within OTL, but since you removed it, not to worry, we'll run another tool
First:
Go to START>>RUN, copy/paste the next command in Blue below, then hit OK

ComboFix /uninstall

This will uninstall ComboFix and it's components
Let's use OTC.exe to remove other files/folders that were produced by OTL
Please download OTC.exe by OldTimer:
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTC.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

If you definitely want to remove the Recovery Console, please follow these steps Exactly!
Removing the Recovery Console

    * Click Start, click My Computer, and then double-click the hard disk on which you installed the Recovery Console.
    * On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
    * Click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
    * At the root folder, delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file.
    * At the root folder, right-click the Boot. ini file, and then click Properties.
    * Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.
    * WARNING: Modifying the Boot. ini file incorrectly may prevent your computer from restarting. Be sure to delete only the entry for the Recovery Console. Also, it is recommended that you change the attribute for the Boot. ini file back to a read-only state after you complete this procedure. Open the Boot. ini file in Microsoft Windows Notepad, and remove the entry for the Recovery Console. It looks similar to this:

      C:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
    * Save the file and close it.

Hrm... what I mean by I have two options to boot is, the computer restarts and when it does a black screen comes up like I shut down the computer improperly... that screen gives me the option to boot into xp or the recovery console. If I remember correctly there is a way if you go through msconfig or something like that where you change the time to 0 and it will just automatically go into xp instead of prompting you.

Also, I ran spybot search and destroy and it found 135 things approximately. I erased them all. I didn't see a log produced, but I thought I'd let you know that.

Spybot may of just found cookies, I'm not sure without seeing the results

I would add SpywareBlaster to your set of protection software
it does not run in the background but helps to silently protect your system

SpywareBlaster  by JavaCool
At the link you can read more about it if you like then continue with
Free Download on the right>>Continue Download at next page
Basically it
    *Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
Select Manual updating when installing
After installation, Check for updates
After updating, select "Protection Status" on the Left
Then select "Enable all Protection"
IMPORTANT>>"Check for updates every couple of weeks or so"
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
or again, click on Protection Startus>>enable all protection

If you don't want to remove the Recovery console, but set time to 0
Try the following
Right click on MyComputer icon, then select Properties
Click on the ADVANCED tab>>Then click on SETTINGS under Startup and Recovery
Untick "Time to Display List of Operating Systems" and OK it
