Computer doesnt open programs
« on: May 18, 2010, 12:29:46 AM »
A kind of misleading topic title but it's the only one short enough to fit this. Basically, what happens is i start up my computer, it loads windows normally, then gets to my desktop and once there, after about 10 seconds the desktop disappears then reappears and reverts back to windows 97 look even though i have windows XP. (the task bar changes to that at least. the whole gray look.) My programs and shortcuts are all the same. Desktop doesnt change but the taskbar does. Another thing that happens is my sound device goes kaboom. The little icon at the bottom right disappears. If i go to control panel>sounds and audio devices it says "No audio device" To get my sound back, i have to uninstall it then reinstall and it works. I shouldn't have to do that every time i restart my computer or turn it on. Also, it just recently stopped working entirely even after uninstall/reinstall. I click a song to play on WMP and it asks me to install a codec it. I do it, sound plays. I go to youtube, click a random video, no sound at all. This just started 10 minutes ago. And lastly, after my computer has been on between 30 minutes to xx hours, programs like Task manager, a game i have, display for desktop settings, windows media player, and some .exe files will not open. And if they do decide to open, it's normally 10-20 minutes later AFTER i've selected that particular program or document to open. I don't know what could be causing this. I've tried system restore, last known good configuration, ran malware, spyware, and virus scans, things came up yes but it did not solve my problem. I've been here before about some computer problems i've had and guestolo helped out a lot. I'm now back asking for help again. Here is my latest Hijackthis log. Hopefully you can again help me. ^^

Download ComboFix from ONLY this location:

LINK
Save it ONLY to your Desktop

      --------------------------------------------------------------------
Temporarily Disable your AntiVirus/AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with this tool

 • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
 • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
 • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply

NOTE: Do not mouseclick inside ComboFix window as it's running, it may cause it to stall
ComboFix will/may run again on startup, it will prompt that it's creating a log
This process could take up to 10 minutes, let it run uninterrupted please

Double-click on TFC.exe to run it.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately.

I'm just on my way to bed, in the meantime, till I return, can you do the following please
Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.
 • Close all windows and double click on OTL.exe to run it
 • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
 • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
 • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

NOTE: If you have trouble, or an error message trying to post the logs
Can you upload it to a reply box
In a Reply, select "Browse..." on the bottom right and then navigate to the file and select it
Then click "Upload"

In addition, can you let me know how things are now running please
