XP crash and can\'t reinstall.
« on: March 17, 2003, 07:29:15 AM »
I have had xp pro installed on my machine for a few months.  I build a second machine from spare parts and put xp on the aswell.  I had to phone to active this version.  Both machines are connected to the web through a lan.  The day after I activated xp on the second machine my main machine stopped booting.  I get a stop code error on start up.  I carn\'t even reinstall xp as I get the stop code error when I boot from the cd.  I have disconected all unneed hardware but this hasn\'t helped.  I have a lot of Uni work and software on my hard drive which I don\'t want to lose.  Any help would be most welcome.

Memory dead?
Replace it with another chip and see if it will boot.
If it still won’t boot, replace the graphics card.
Then the processor.
The last resort would be looking hard at a possible dead motherboard.
It’s not what you wanted to here, but sometimes s**t happens.
Good luck!

how about you give us the technical information in the stop error message and we might be able to help.
