Video Upgrade IBM300PL
« on: July 03, 2003, 01:49:10 PM »
I have an IBM 300PL desktop PC with onboard S3 Incorporated Trio 3D video adapter (4Mb).  I would like to get 256 colors with Windows 98SE, instead of just 16.
Any suggestions?  (Please don't say a new PC -- I can do that, of course, but I'm interested in this problem right now.)  Thanks!

if you're only getting 16 colors there's something wrong with your video card driver, or rather it sounds like you're using the generic vga driver. bear in mind that there is a difference between 16 colors and 16 bit color. Windows should have provided the correct driver for that card, but here's a link to ibm's site for what looks like the right driver.

Openfriday is right! You should have 16 bit color available to you. That's much more than 256. Their should be drivers on the CD for the motherboard, hopefully you have it. If so look for drivers on the CD.
