WinPE !!??
« on: July 11, 2003, 09:16:45 AM »
I know WinPE stands for Windows Pre-execution Environment. But more info about that would be helpful. Any links or docs. Any one have hands on experience with WinPE ?

Like how the programming is done for applications that has to run in WinPE. What compilers available. Does it have a DOS BOX ? If yes how much is it compatible with DOS ? etc.

Thanks in advance

Guys, I think you have your wires crossed.

WinPE is Windows Pre-Installation Enviroment.
It is a cut down Windows XP Operating system
used for diagnostics and as a recovery console.

PXE is Intels Pre-boot Execution Enviroment.
Used to boot off a server(for dumb terminals) or
to preset certain enviroment variables when the
machine is booting (not too sure of my expliantion here)

You are right "classified"  WinPE is Windows Pre-Installation Enviroment , but what you haven't realised is that.........

WinPE is a tool based on Microsoft Windows® XP Professional that allows IT staff to build custom solutions that speed up deployment through automation so they spend less time and effort keeping desktops updated. WinPE can run Windows setup, scripts, and imaging applications. Enterprise Agreement (EA) and Software Assurance Membership (SAM) customers received WinPE in their October 2002 updates, and it will continue to be offered as a benefit of Software Assurance

So better check your wires too .....buddy and then talk to me....ok

and as for sugumar well i have some links for you.. but it would be best if you just drop in to microsoft's site at www.microsoft.com  and check it out.
