Which Password did you forget ?? If you forgot simply a User password. Logon as the Administrator, then goto Administration - select Users and delete the user account for which you forgot the password. Then Create the SAME account again with new password. If you cannot logon as someone with Administrator rights - well my friend you are in deeper than rats in a snake belly. Make your Bootable CD with the Service pack Slipstreamed in and Reinstall it. - DO NOT REFORMAT - or Change the Partitions etc on reinstallation - simply install into existing file system - and you should be fairly well when it comes back up - you might need to reinstall some software but I think all the drivers are cool - I do know that if you have IIS loaded and run Svc Pk 4 - it likes to logon to the Domain - and you get short changed because your account is not in the Domain (if you are logging locally)

Its very easy to remove or modify any Administrator password with simple floppy disk called CIA commander or Offline NT Password & Registry Editor free available at http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html.
Its really good you dont need to uninstal or reinstall enything in two minutes all finished!!!

A simple method that works for WinXP and should work for Win2000 is to re-boot in safe mode(use F8 key on boot-up) and go into safe-mode, then sign in as admin, and remove user ID that you don't remember PW for , then reboot with new user(or add new user).
