« on: April 29, 2003, 02:28:38 AM »
This is another problem that I have noticed since I have installed, the new version of mandrake, I noticed that my hard disk drive heads keep making a noise every now and then, I have tested the drive and the drives has not fault.

I have been using this drive with version 9.0 (dolphin) and did not had this knocking noise.

does anyone know if this is a flaw with mandrake 9.1 (bamboo)

this does not sound normal to me any help would be ok.

Thx

Please note I am tech and I have thoroughlt tested this drive.

One of the most upsetting thing is when you have a modem that works well in WinXp, but  would not work in Linux, well I have had this problem and I have over come it, so I guess maybe this may help someone out there.

offcourse you should download the mgmt.o file from Alcatel or if you can find the RPM it should be even easier for you, using the RPM format the file is automatically loaded into the /etc/share/speedtouch folder however if you need to put it there manually u can copy the mgmt.o file to /etc/share/speedtouch.

next you need to get the correct information from your service provider about the correct information such as vpi and vci information, after getting that information you need to edit the etc/ppp/peers/adsl and edit the file to put in you vci and vpi information. You need to be in root to do so.

Software / Root Login Linux Mandrake 9.1
« on: April 22, 2003, 06:49:29 PM »
Ok Now I know some person are asking about the root command in Linux Mandrake 9.1, at installation it is not activated as a login screen but can be added, very simply.

this would help:

Click Start button (kde start button), configuration,KDE, System, Login Manager
type your root password, You would have assign this at installation
and you should noticed that the users are hidden, make the necessary adjustments and u are on your way
