How did it not work?  Did the program itself not work?  Try installing from the rpms, you need both the main and the gui rpm (not an official release, have to get from texstar's rpm list).  Works fine for me, I'm also using Mandrake 9.1.  If you can't find torrent sites, can't really help you much there, but they are out there.

There's also several p2p programs made specifically for linux, and others that run under windows will often work with wine, though you may have to do some tweaking.

/usr/bin/btdownloadgui.py
/usr/bin/btdownloadheadless.py
/usr/bin/btdownloadcurses.py
/usr/bin/btdownloadlibrary.py

I had a problem with Mozilla where it would try opening the torrent file, so I instead save it to my drive.  Phoenix fixed that problem so it may not affect you.  Anyways the command I use is btdownloadgui.py.  Also letting it run using defaults will eat all your upload bandwidth and may in turn hurt your download speed (plus make it near impossible to do anything else while it's downloading) so to compensate you can give it an upload speed via the command line.  Now normally you would type btdownloadgui.py somefile.torrent, but if you give it the parameter to limit the upload speed, you also have to give it the parameter that tells it you want to load a local file (seems silly, but took me days to figure that out).  So using that example, if you want to limit your upload speed to 20kb/s, your command would be \"btdownloadgui.py --max_upload_rate 20 --responsefile somefile.torrent &\" (I threw in the & so you will keep control of the shell and can start another download using the same shell).

BTW there were two rpms for bittorrent, make sure you installed them both.  One installs the main program, the other the gui (something like bittorrent-gui I think).

I think I need to make some changes in the configuration, the defaults downloads are set to 4 kbs and so on so I need some help in configuration.

Thx for all your help

Like almost all Linux software...the changes should be able to be made through emacs, vim or whatever by editing a text file in the install dir.

btw..this is sort of off topic. But i have NEVER seen ANY p2p that was not available on linux. Not one.
I know fasttrack (kazaa/morpheous), opennap (winmx, napster, audiognome), gnuetlla, and web based
sites all have alternatives. The web is Unix (incase you didnt notice...alot do not but http:// use's forward
slash's) so almost everything that goes across it is usable by any unix platform.

I know the BEST alternative to Opennap lies on linux but cant remember the name...there is a link to it
at audiognome's homepage.

The best alternative to Kazaa (fasttrack) lies on linux...again cant remember the name.

Linux pretty much has a better alternative to all network clients...atleast at par with win versions.

www.google.com/linux should return all of them.

There's two things that affect your download speed.  First is the upload speed.  It will allow you to download at a faster rate than you upload, but it's still proportionate.  For example if I set the upload speed at 10kb/s, my download speeds max out around 50kb/s.  So don't set that too low.  Second, you won't be able to download that fast if not many people are uploading.  Also note that when you first start up a download it will be slow, it takes at least a few minutes to find enough people (if they're out there) to get a good download speed.

Thank You Space Between

ok I download this new lopster file u talked about. and installed it but upon installation Linux Mandrake 9.1 tells me everything is already installed.

I am looking for src file to exexcute it but I am unable to do so, do u have any suggestions?

Thank you

Now this is my only other problem with linux so far besides my webcam but that is another topic, so far I have gotten code weaver and was able to install some windows programms on the linux box, but I certainly need some help here with lopster.
