Tech Clinic / windows 2000 problem
« on: August 24, 2003, 01:11:28 AM »
well what i would do would be to just completely reformat your harddrive with ntfs. You could use the floppies that you can make from the cd to start it and just format with ntfs instead of fat32. Thats what i would do anyways, since ive reformatted my computers about a million times.  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

Software / I need help!
« on: August 24, 2003, 01:05:33 AM »
Alright, lately (these past 2 months) my computer has been having a lot of problems. Before i thought that it was the os, so i upgraded to win 2k... but that didn't help. Im still having the same problem (although its not as bad as before.). Here's the problem: my computer keeps "shutting down" although its still powered on (the cpu is still running, power light is on) but none of the drives function, nor do the keyboard, and the monitor shuts off. It doesnt happen all the time, but it could happen anytime, and it would really...be...bad if i was working on something. yeah. Whats the problem here? Any info could help! thanks.

well, anyways here's the specs on my computer, if it could help:

windows 2000 pro
633 mhz processor
256 mb ram
model: emachines

Software / I need info for Msconfig.exe

Ok I recently put windows 2k on my computer, just to find out there is NO msconfig utility  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />  so I can get rid of the useless startup programs (i used to have win ME). Turns out that I can get the windows XP one (it says it works with 2000) from This Site. Well heres the question: if I get the windows XP version of msconfig will it work with windows 2k?

If It can work with windows 2k what do i do with the zip file with msconfig in it? where do i unzip it to? Thanks for any help.
