AHAH!  'I see" says the blind man....

I discovered my problem.  I let the install run, found out it was missing 33 files all together and I wrote each one of them down so I could figure out what they were.  Turns out I didn't install the SP3 or 4 properly ( dumped in wrong folder).  Reset all the service pack installs and VOILA!! it works like a charm.

Great big leanring curve here, but I got over it.

I got everything to work, but now when it starts to install, it says I'm missing a bunch of files "acgenrl.something" There must be 20 or so it can't read.  I check the orignal CD and the SP4 files, but can't find anything close that would resemble these (expected to find a "acgenrl.sy_ or something along that line).  I did manage to make a single boot disk in (unattend style) and it installs no problem.  The only files I have changed between the two disks are the setupldr and txtsetup files, and I added the cdrom*.tst and sp4 files to the root.  Perhaps I screwed up the slipstreaming of the SP4 in somw way.

At least it boots up and the NTLDR snag is gone. Now I just have to figure out why it's missing all these files.

I shall press on.

now we're getting somewhere.... I found that the setupldr.bin in the I386 folder was not the same as the one in the /WPRO folder.  replaced the /WPRO file with a copy from the I386 and now it boots up.  Unfortuantly it quits at the "cannot find EULA"... but I can deal with that.

The problem is that when I use the loader.bin the disk will not boot up.  When I use boot.bin, it boots fine, but I have no menu options to select from.  On the problem disk, I always get NTDETECT FAIL just after it says "Setup is deteminging your hardware congiuration" or something like that.

I have the cdromsp4.tst in the root, but I wil remove it and give that a try.  I will let you know how I make out.

The NTDETECT FAIL is still going on, but I burned it to a CDRW and tried it on my other computer.  The message I get over there is "No emmulation type RAW".

Any hints?

Software / Critical Stop on Boot

What are the specs of your computer?  Custom built, IBM, HP (ugh), Processor RAM, etc....  It would help if we knew what you are running.  I'm sure it's not a Commadore 64.....
