Hardware / Is CPU or Motherboard bad?
« on: December 03, 2005, 08:21:13 AM »
http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' /> Have a new ASRock 939 motherboard and a new AMD 3200+ Venice CPU. I've had it running and installed operating system for a week. However, the post screen would pause for about 50sec. with post code 0078. Then it would beep once and then load the operating system (XP/SP-2). ASRock suggested I recheck my IDE connections. After checking them, I now can't get the board to post. I've removed the board from the case, removed all but CPU and Memory but when I power on the cpu fan starts for about 3secs. and then shuts down.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Ron

Software / Will you upgrade to Vista?

I don't see why any selfrespecting computer geek would want such a bloated restrictive operating system. I like the independence that I have with XP. I can copy what I want without Bill sticking his nose into my business.

Software / This Is A tough One-License Key Removal

Run SmitRem in safe mode then run adaware in safe mode. That removed the PCGuard key in the registry for me.

Software / This Is A tough One-License Key Removal

http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />  While surfing in Google I got a virus and trojan. At the same time I got a pop-up from PCGuard trying to sell me their security software. I've removed the virus and trojan and all references in the registry except one folder; (HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\SHUDDERLTD\PSGUARD\PSGUARD\LICENSE). The LICENSE folder is LOCKED and I can't access it. I get the error message;(ERROR OPENING KEY) plus (Cannot Open License: Error While Opening Key). When I right click on the folder I get the mesage;(Unable to Display Security Information). I can right click the other folders and give me permission but trying to delete them won't work because of the locked LICENSE folder. I've run Reg Cleaner and it finds the folders but can't remove them. I've tried many cleaners and nothing works. I don't believe the folders are any harm but would still like to get rid of them . It's a shame that a company can have that kind of control over ones operating system. I've even disconnected from the internet and tried in Safe Mode.
Thanks for any advise, Ron

Tech Clinic / Boot from USB keyboard
« on: June 22, 2005, 06:48:42 PM »
On all my computers, I turn on the system using the keyboard. I enable the service in Bios. I notice that USB keyboards won't turn on the computer this way. Is it possible without rewriting the Bios to enable this feature with a USB keyboard?

Hardware / Bad System Memory?
« on: June 26, 2004, 02:45:31 PM »
http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />  My system memory wont run at its rated speed unless I underclock my CPU. Could my memory be bad or are the default settings in BIOS causing the problem?
I'm running a AMD Barton 2500 /333 with an EPOX VIA KT400 EP-8K9A2+ and DDRAM 512-PC-2700 DDR333- Samsung DIMM CL2.5 unbuffered.
When I boot, I get a message to adjust my host clock. The screen shows AMD 2500 at 1.83/ FSB333. The Ram is FSB 414 at DDR3200. I can't go forward without underclocking my CPU. I set FSB to 266 and then when I boot it shows my CPU as AMD 1900 speed 1.43 and Ram at correct setting of FSB333-DDR2700 and the computer then boots OK.
