problems with NEC 7700A CDRW and Win XP
« on: October 18, 2001, 11:46:43 PM »
Hi all, I recently installed windows XP onto my system. I\'ve done a clean format and an upgrade from windows 98 SE, but I still get this problem.

I can play audio CDs, but there is static in the back ground. I\'ve checked and no it\'s not the CD. As well, I am UNABLE to access any programmes via the CDRW drive. I get errors like setup files are missing and whatnot. However, the CD works immacuately with windows 98!!

I don\'t understand why this is happening, could it be a BIOS problem, drivers, etc???!!! A friend lent me this version of XP and he/she hasn\'t had any problems with it as well as the others he/she has lent it to (totalling 6 or 7).

I am running an 1.2 gig AMD Athlon w/ 256 DDR ram. I have a K7AMA motherboard with...I\'m not sure what the chipset is.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

PS: I can \'explore\' the CD, but just not run it??

I\'m having the same problem with my motherboard (K7VZA) and my copy of Windows XP.  I haven\'t been able to figure it out.  I assume it\'s a problem with the ECS motherboards and Windows XP because it worked like a charm on 2000.

oh really?  Do you know if there are any update availables or will be available any time soon?

I am STILL using XP right now, but with no CDRW/CDROM access!

Is it a chipset problem or a BIOS one?

Hmmmmm...

im in the dark as to what is causing the problem and when they\'re going to fix it. you can go here.  this is a message board where all the users post all their problems and other people try and help.  sometimes if you\'re lucky ecs support will reply.

good luck.
