Keeps turning off...

While one problem go away, another comes...

In the last week, I almost lost my HD. After using Powermax to phisically format it, I've recovered it. After that, installed Windows XP, completely configured it and used it for a few days... Then, suddenly, unexpectly, my computer keeps automatically turning off. At the beginning, I thought it was something about the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) and the lovesan virus. But no. It doesn't have a "modus operandi", which means that I can't determine when it will turn off: sometimes it reaches the OS and works for some minutes, sometimes it doesn't even complete BIOS reading.

I managed to configure the BIOS, to see if there were something about "Safe Temperature", or some, but no... Opened the side of my CPU, to get it colder, turned a fan by it's side. Didn't work. The highest temperature it reached was 49 Celsius. Quite cold.

I had a RAM problem recently. Decided to test. Took one of my 128 out. Didn't work. Exchange 'em. Also didn't work.

A strange behaviour: after turning off it spends some minutes then, suddenly and automatically, start over again.

I think is the Power Supply, but don't have how to test.

Any other clue?

Two things...

I have same problem - changed power supply - didn't work.

removing case could make computer hotter as airflow actually decreases.

Mindless, sorry, but I don’t think that these kind of problem is caused by a virus.
And the reason for that is that the computer sometimes doesn’t even finish reading bios, like marconereu said.
I have a friend with that problem and to see if it was a virus, I entered the bios setup and waited. After 5 or 8 minutes the system simply shut down…
If the power supply is out of option, it only remains the processor overheating or motherboard malfunction don’t you think?
I have two questions, the persons who have this problem, have an UPS?
My friend also has one… might the problem be from there? http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Hi there. There's one factor in this equation that hasn't been considered yet: Electronic components get busted from time to time due to ESD specially if you guys open you PC and touch it without discharging yourselves first by touching a grounded metallic object (the unpainted chasis of the PC is a good one) Most of the PC components (if not all) are extremely sensitive to ESD and some damage will not destroy the components all the way but weaken them inducing malfunctions.....
