Hi, I have searched all over and found several related issues related to mine, but not quite this exact one.
I recently acquired a Seagate Barracuda 160 GB SATA hard drive. I have been able to install it as the second SATA drive in my system. It works, registers as the proper size, and I have been able to read and write to it with no problem.
The problem is that the drive does not appear by default in the Windows Explorer directory tree. The only way I can access this drive is to type the drive letter into the address bar; once I have done this, the drive appears in the left panel directory tree as normal.
While some applications follow Windows' suit and do NOT automatically detect the drive, other applications DO recognize the drive's existence by default. I cannot understand this inconsistency. And the issue persists regardless of whether the drive is partitioned or not.
My relevant system stats are:
Mobo: Intel D865PERL
CPU: Intel P4 2.40
RAM: 4 * 256 MB Kingston DDR400 (2 dual slots)
Drive 0: Seagate 80 GB SATA Barracuda
Drive 1: Seagate 160 GB SATA Barracuda
OS: Windows XP Professional w/ SP1 (build 2600)
I would really appreciate any assistance or suggestions.
Thanks very much.
