CD-Rom Drive Troubles..Software Solution?

Ok One day outta the blue I get out of stand-by mode by moving my mouse, now I didn't notice it at first but when I go to put a Cd-Rom in my Cd Rom drive I notice the light is blinking....while there is no ready/green light on my CD-RW Now I restart and this problem is solved, but it happened again and again untill restarting didnt do a damn thing....so now I got a DVD drive with a blinking light that won't eject to put in a CD and a CD-RW that has no green light....neither read discs or show up in My Computer...need some help on this one, thanks in advance---Demi

Pentium II 400 Mhz
Windows 98 Second Edition
256 Mb of Ram
10Gig HDD


Yea its a relic 6 yrs old...

 I also put this in Hardware  Section but I was wondering if there maybe a software solution for this....thanks again for all helpful replys

disable stand by mode (it sucks)...power down computer
double check you jumper settings on you cd-dvd drives.
one had to be master one has to be slave if they share the same ide cable.
make sure you plugged in the ide cable the correct way
"red stripe the the right" closest to the power conector..
go into your bios and check to make sure the drives are there...
in the ide settings.
 THATS WHERE I WOULD START... HOPE IT HELPS.

i still use my p3 500
in my toolbox at work...
old it not bad.
