Windows XP SP2
« on: August 12, 2004, 09:10:22 PM »
Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) has finally been released!

Currently only the network installer (aka the business version) is available weighing in at 266MB! This version is designed to update all XP based systems including home, pro, media center, tablet pc, etc and to be used in business environments by IT Professionals.

Soon there will be a consumer version put out on the windows update site as well as thru the automatic update service. I'd suggest home users just wait for this to become available as the network installer is very very very big!  The windows update version will only download the required updates so you don't waste your time downloading things you won't use.

You can read all about SP2 as well as get the download here:

Problems encountered with sp2:

1. it does not accept directx 9.0c
it says its running on the system
but dxdiagnostics says its still directx 9.0b

2. i cannot install my need for speed underground 2
    what a waste

3. its slowing down my access to other computers

it has nice/cool GUI but overall it sucks

Service Pack 2 includes a lot of security updates
It's important to install it

However, there are some incompatibilities with Drivers that are out of date
and some third party software programs>>Such as ZoneAlarm
If not updated

ensure to keep Drivers and programs up to date

Also, recommended by Microsoft
Make sure your computer is virus and spyware free before you install Service Pack 2
This is necessary

At one time one of of ten computers were having a hard time after installing SP2
The blame was put on the service pack

Digging deeper they concluded that Most, I'm not saying all
Had either Virus, Trojans, Spyware,etc.. on their computers before the install
Or older incompatible software

No. There is no way to remove SP2 if it came integrated with your Windows Installation CD.

I hate sp2 and thank god i have sp1.  However lately some sp2 files have come on my computer (i saw them on that add/remove list) anyways they are screwing up a lot of my programs. After i unstalled 2 out of 8 of them the rest of them froze when i tried uninstalling them.  I have tried restarting my computer lots of times and opening it up in safe mode but it all results in the same freezing.  Someone plz help me out with this.
