DVD burning problem
« on: November 24, 2004, 05:05:02 PM »
When I burn a DVD (from image, disc to disc or whatever), the read buffer gets emptied and then builds up. This happens over and over again and only when I'm burning DVDs.

I didn't have this problem before and my guess is that something I installed is causing it.

I recently made a fresh install of Windows XP Pro (SP2 integrated). Burning worked fine in the beginning. Don't remember when, but after installing everything I usually have installed (including most updates from Windows Update), this problem started.

The burning works fine, but what earlier took me 10 minutes to burn now takes almost 30 minutes because of the buffer problem.

I have:

Windows XP (SP2)
Philips DVDR824DP
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
AMD Athlon XP2800+

I've tried with latest Nero Burning ROM and latest DVD Decrypter, both with same results. I've tried closing all programs running in the background and of course not using the computer during the burn process.

When it worked as is should I used the same system specification, an earlier version of Nero Burning ROM (6.0 I think it was), all programs I usually have running in the background and I could even use the computer when burning.

I have no idea what to do. My next option is to reinstall Windows and try burning after installing every program.

Can anyone help me?

There are two things I would do before anything else.

First I would update the firmware/drivers for the DVD burner and try burning a disc. Second, I would run msconfig and disable any programs from the startup that are not necessary for the system and try burning a DVD. If it works, just add the programs back to the msconfig startup one at a time.
