Here's what I suggested to another poster
Even if you have Anti-virus protection could you please run these online virus scanners

Try here at TrendMicros ---Set to Autoclean
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

and/or try one here at Panda's
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm

At either online virus scanner, you should be given the option to save the report after the scan is complete, can you post that report, thanks

After you have done the above Restart your computer
When your back in Windows
Could you let me know what version of Windows your running
98, XP?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Download this zipped file and save it to your desktop
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip
UnZip it to your desktop
Close out all windows , including this one and double click on the

xp_exe_fix.reg
Allow it to merge to the registry

Restart your computer

You should post a hijackthis log to ensure that your clean

Create a permanent folder for Hijackthis
EG>>
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from HERE or HERE
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

I did that but all I got was a gray box again that said Windows can not open the file: HijackThis.exe and refers me to do two options either look it up on a web service or to choose from a list of programs. when i choose to find it online microsoft website says it cant help me and refers me to a site called cknow.com and the cycle continues. Nothing opens and the same gray box comes up for ALL the programs on my computer except word documents and the internet.

Are you able to Unzip the reg file to desktop?

Are you signed into the computer with Administrative privileges?

Can you try saving and unzipping this file to desktop
and double click on .bat file to run it
